Minimal & Classic Wedding showcase: Nicola & Ben
Type of Event
Wedding
Location
Family farm overlooking Banks Peninsula
Nicola & Ben were married at the end of January on Ben’s family farm overlooking Banks Peninsula. We started working with Nic & Ben almost a year out from their big day and instantly connected with them and their vision.
Truly Yours was engaged for full styling, planning and on the day co-ordination to ensure that every element was taken care of. Given there were 3 sites on the property there was lots of moving parts to the day. Having the guests journey from ceremony, canapé hour and reception was magic.

We spoke to Nicola and Ben about their special day…
Where did you get your inspiration from?
We always knew that we would have a very minimal and classic wedding. We always knew we wanted to get married on the farm and be able to have a really unique and memorable day, so the marquee being a blank canvas was a perfect fit for us. I knew the farm was quite dry in the summer, so we basically based our colour palette off what our surroundings were - neutrals with white to match the marquee. It was really important for us to have different aspects to the day to what we had seen before - whether this was the ‘blessing of the rings’ or quirky signage etc. Pinterest always proved a big help when looking for inspiration!
What were some of your “must-haves” for the day?
A wedding planner - best money you will ever spend! Lucy and I (Nicola) got along really well and she knew exactly I wanted/the vibe I was going for. There is no way we could have pulled the wedding off without her help - it is a reassuring feeling to know someone is there to help along the way and nothing was too big of an issue. Creating a good atmosphere was also high on the priority list for us so good music is a must! But I am a firm believer in doing what is right for you when it comes to this - we had a DJ and that definitely was our vibe! Acknowledging those who had passed was also really important. Adding in little personal touches here and there to remember them was important.
Advice for future couples getting married?
I think it is easy to get carried away with the wedding and sometimes lose sight of what actually is important and why you are getting married in the first place! I think just make the most of it and don’t sweat the small stuff (things always go wrong on the day) - Enjoy every minute of it because the day goes so fast!
